The SQL Server Standard is the flagship publication of PASS. It was produced in print from 2003 to 2008 and all the available back issues are posted in the magazine archive for your viewing. In November 2008 we made the tough decision to stop distributing it in print. In late 2009, we re-launched the SQL Server Standard in PDF form. Unfortunately, we have again suspended publication, but all this premium content remains available below (log in to view).

SQL Server Standard articles are peer-reviewed compositions of the highest quality, written by a professional with 5+ years experience in the subject area. Members wishing to submit an abstract had to meet the following criteria:

  • Have 5 years professional experience as a developer, DBA, report writer, database developer, or some other technical or functional area
  • Have been published formally as a writer (excludes blogs) on any of the SQL community sites (content was reviewed as part of the abstract acceptance process) or have written a book that has gone through a technical/copy review process
  • Be a member of the Professional Association of SQL Server and have a profile on PASSPort

While the Standard is no longer in production, there are still a number of ways to contribute technical content to sqlpass.org. For more information, click here.

Archived issues Hi, I need to access the above for learning purpose. But I am currently unemployed and don't know what to enter in the 'company' field on the registration form. I read the Nov-Dec 2006 issue (that I found online). It was extremely useful. Any help in this matter is highly appreciated. Thanks. Submitted By: Sandy

Archived sample files? Hi, I'm trying to find a sample file from the Sept\Oct 2007 issue. The url is http://www.sqlserverstandard.com/dowloads/200709 /fuzzy.search.samples.zip. Do those files still exist? Thanks. Don Submitted By: Donald Wert

Didn't see these comments Sorry, I missed these comments. Let me respond now. 1) Jerry & Kevin, yeah, we're working on distributing by email. But, we're still trying to get regular publication done first. 2) David, good question. We don't have that and we'll need to work on it. 3) Silvia, nope, we don't have that one. I'll point some authors here to see if we can get them to use this as an idea for an article. 4) Rick, yes, if we get to where we can publish regularly with one article, we'll start expanding it to include more stuff. That's good news! I'm looking for a certain volume That's good news! I'm looking for a particular article. This is the problem I'm facing: The database (SQL Server 2005) holds more than 5 million customer records. These records contain sensitive credit-card information that must be encrypted. Implementing an application-side encryption solution involves VB6 and .Net technologies. How to achieve a server-side encryption solution that would have minimal impact on performance and business processes? Does anyone know a volume that refers to security; encryption; anything that helps. Thanks in advance. Submitted By: Silvia Lopes
