Summer of Learning
From ash clouds to a 24-hour marathon of webinars, it has been a
busy spring here at PASS as we took advantage of many opportunities to bring you
top-notch SQL Server education in a variety of formats and locations. And the
summer is showing no signs of slowing down.
Last month, we held our second-ever
24 Hours of PASS virtual
event with a record 63,000 registrations. PASS officially
assumed responsibility for helping coordinate and guide
SQLSaturday events alongside local
chapter leaders. And our
virtual chapters
have been holding monthly—sometimes weekly—meetings full of fantastic content
that are broadcast live and often available for on-demand streaming afterward.
The SQL Server 2008 R2 Launch
tour officially kicked off at
PASS European Conference and
spread around the globe, with 27 PASS Chapters participating in the events.
Although the volcanic ash cloud prevented some speakers (and some attendees)
from physically making it to European Conference, we were able to leverage
LiveMeeting to deliver content to attendees wherever they were.

24 Hours of PASS Goodness
It’s a wrap on the record-breaking
24 Hours of PASS: Celebrating SQL
Server 2008 R2 virtual event, which saw 63,000 registrations tune into the
24 back-to-back webcasts presented by top SQL Server speakers from around the
world. In fact response was so overwhelming that we aren’t even able to access
our 24 Hours of PASS event reports within Microsoft LiveMeeting because they are
so large! Microsoft is working to help us remedy the situation and we’ll share
more facts and figures once we receive the reports.
Couldn’t attend the event or missed some sessions due to work or heavy eyelids?
All 24 Hours of PASS session recordings will be available for on-demand
streaming soon. And we’ll also announce the elite few who made it through all 24
sessions. Until then, check out Wil Sisney’s (@HanSQL’s) The
11
Must-see Sessions You Missed at 24 Hours of PASS and relive the event
through this tweet collection:

Have you tried the SQL Server
2008 R2 Hosted Trial yet? More than 851 people have signed up so
far, working through 1094 lab sessions. If you haven’t already, set aside some
time to take advantage of this unique, risk-free opportunity to get your hands
on R2.

Love the PASS Summit 2010 Lineup—or Your Money Back!
PASS Program Committee members will be working hard this month reviewing Pre-
and Post-Conference proposals and session abstracts so they can announce the
Summit 2010 lineup in July. But we don't want you to miss out on the
discounted conference rate of $1,395, ending June 30, because you’re
waiting to see what will be on tap.
We're confident you're going to love the lineup, so for those of you who want to
nab the lower registration rate, we're offering a one-time 100% Satisfaction
Guarantee for registrations between June 2 and June 30. Simply register to get
the lower rate. And once we publish the sessions, you'll have a month to review
the lineup. If you're not fully satisfied with it, contact us by August 13, and
we'll cancel your registration and refund your full fee with no penalty.

Hurry! Call for Speakers Closes Saturday
Nearly 250 sessions have been submitted as we enter the final week of the PASS
Summit 2010 Call for Speakers, but we want more! Review the
currently submitted
abstracts, check out the
Definitions page and
Speaker
Resources, and then submit your
abstracts by June 5.
Vote by Friday for David DeWitt’s keynote topic! Dr. DeWitt
is returning to PASS Summit to deliver the most highly anticipated keynote of
the conference—and you can help choose his topic: Query Optimization 101 or
MapReduce vs SQL.
8th Annual Women in Technology Luncheon at PASS Summit 2010:
Increasing the role of women in technology has a direct impact on the women
working in high-tech, but the effects can go far beyond that. How do female tech
workers influence innovation and product development? How do men benefit from
having more women working in technology? Can the presence of women in tech
affect a company’s bottom line? What does it mean for women and their families
when they have access to high-tech jobs? Plan now to attend the luncheon and
panel discussion on
“Recruiting, Retaining & Advancing Women in Technology: Why Does It Matter?”
Nov. 10.
