Kamal Hathi

Kamal is the Director of the BI Group in Microsoft SQL Server. He is responsible for managing the overall strategy, design, development and delivery of SQL Server business intelligence technologies. The foundation of Microsoft’s end-to-end business intelligence solutions, SQL Server delivers an innovative platform and tools which help organizations worldwide easily build and deploy robust business intelligence solutions at all scales with low total cost of ownership.

Since joining Microsoft in 1996, Kamal has served in engineering management roles in various product groups and was one of the founding members of Microsoft’s Business Intelligence efforts. Before Microsoft, Kamal has a diverse work history that includes experiences in research and consulting. Kamal has a graduate degree in engineering from Case Western Reserve University.

Adam Jorgensen / Pragmatic Works Consulting

Adam Jorgensen is a SQL Server MVP, SQLPASS Board Member and the President of Pragmatic Works consulting. He has been delivering innovative SQL Server and Business Intelligence solutions for over a decade. His passion is finding new and innovative avenues for clients and the community to embrace business intelligence and lower barriers to implementation. His specialty is in working with large, multi-terabyte environments and works with customers to quickly understand their business models and identify their needs to deliver value as efficiently as possible.
 

Alberto Ferrari / Sqlbi

Alberto Ferrari is a Business Intelligence consultant whose interests lie in two main areas: BI development lifecycle methodologies and performance tuning of ETL/SQL code. His current focus is on using SSIS and SSAS in the banking, manufacturing, and statistical sectors. Alberto has spoken at international conferences such as the European PASS Conference and PASS Summit. He also co-authored "Expert Cube Development with SSAS 2008" with Marco Russo and Chris Webb in 2009 and "Microsoft PowerPivot for Excel 2010: Give Your Data Meaning" with Marco Russo in 2010.
 

 

Alexei Khaylyako / Microsoft

Alexei has been with Microsoft since 10+ years. He has started with SQL Server collecting globalization requirements from European countries during the version SQL Server 2005 development. Since about 4 years a member of European part of the SQL Customer Advisory team. He is focusing on large scale Data Warehouses such as well-known European Telecommunication Organizations, on architecture principles which are well reflected in the Fast Track reference Architecture guide. Has published articles on different database topics. Alexei has graduated from Moscow Engineering Physics Institute.
 

 

Allan Hirt / SQLHA

Clustering MVP Allan Hirt is a consultant, published author, speaker, and trainer who has been using SQL Server in various guises since 1992, when he interned at Sybase in college. He is currently based in the Boston, MA, area and for the past 10 years, has traveled all over the world to work with and train clients. His most recent book is "Pro SQL Server 2008 Failover Clustering" (Apress), and he is currently working on a Mission Critical book for SQL Server 2012.

 

Andreas Wolter / SARPEDON Quality Lab

Andreas Wolter, SARPEDON Quality Lab is a Microsoft Certified Master  (MCM) SQL Server 2008 and holds numerous other certifications, including MCT, MCITPDD, MCITPBID, MCITPDA, MCDBA, and MCSA.

Buck Woody is a Senior Technical Specialist for Microsoft, working with enterprise-level clients to develop computing platform architecture solutions within their organizations. Chris Webb is an independent consultant specializing in Analysis Services and MDX. Connor Cunningham / Microsoft

Conor Cunningham is a Principal Software Architect at Microsoft on the SQL Server Query Processor Team. He's worked on database technologies for Microsoft for over 10 years and is holds numerous patents related to Query Optimization and Query Processing. Conor is the author of a number of peer-reviewed articles on query optimization techniques. Recently, he authored a chapter for the book "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Internals" on how the Query Optimizer works. He publishes a blog called "Conor vs. SQL" (http://blogs.msdn.com/conor_cunningham_msft/default.aspx) where he answers questions about databases.

Ewan Fairweather / Microsoft

Ewan Fairweather has worked for Microsoft for six years. He currently works as a program manager in the Business Platform Division on the SQL Customer Advisory Team (SQLCAT) working on large scale OLTP SQL applications. Prior to this, Ewan spent three years working for Microsoft U.K. in the Premier Field Engineering team where he worked with enterprise customers, helping them to maintain and optimize their BizTalk applications. This included working in a dedicated capacity on some of the world's largest BizTalk deployments, predominantly within financial services. Ewan is a lead author on the successful Applied Architecture Patterns on the Microsoft Platform book (Packt, 2010).  Ewan coauthored the successful Professional BizTalk Server 2006 (Wrox, 2007) and has written many white papers for Microsoft including the "Microsoft BizTalk Server Performance Optimization Guide," which is available on the Microsoft Developers Network (MSDN) Web site. Prior to joining Microsoft, Ewan worked as a Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI) for a regional training organization, delivering advanced routing and networking courses. Ewan holds a first class bachelor's degree in Computing with Management from the University of Leeds. Outside of work, Ewan has recently found a fond interest for Jiu Jitsu. Hugo Kornelis / perFact BV

Hugo is co-founder and R&D lead of perFact BV, a Dutch company that strives to improve analysis methods and to develop computer-aided tools that will generate completely functional applications from the analysis deliverable. The chosen platform for this development is SQL Server.

Joe Chang / SolidQ

Joe is a SQL Server Consultant. Joe develops tools for automating SQL XML plan analysis, cross-referencing index usage to execution plans. He has models for predicting SQL Server performance early in the design phase, and taking the guess work out of performance tuning.

He has built a more complete model than the SQL Server internal cost based query optimizer, including processor and system architecture dependencies and logic costs, which are not incorporated in the cost based optimizer.

Klaus Aschenbrenner / SQLpassion

Klaus Aschenbrenner provides independent SQL Server consulting services across the US and Europe, focusing on the .NET Framework and SQL Server 2005/2008. In 2004 and 2005, he received the Microsoft MVP award for his support of the .NET community. Klaus has also written a book, “Pro SQL Server 2008 Service Broker,” published by Apress in 2008.
 

Leonard Lobel  /  Sleek Technologies, Inc.

Leonard Lobel is a SQL Server MVP and co-founder/CTO of Sleek Technologies, Inc., a New York–based development shop with an early adopter philosophy toward new technologies. He is also a principal consultant at Tallan, Inc., a Microsoft National Systems Integrator and Gold Competency Partner.

Programming since 1979, Lenni has served as chief architect and lead developer for various organizations, ranging from small shops to high-profile clients. He is also a consultant, author, trainer, and frequent speaker at local user group meetings, VSLive, SQL PASS, SQLBits, and CodeCamps across the US and abroad. Marco Russo / SQLBI

Marco Russo is a consultant and trainer in Business Intelligence and software development. He has particular competence and experience with BI solutions in sectors such as financial services (including complex OLAP designs in the banking area), manufacturing, and commercial distribution. Marco wrote "The many-to-many revolution" about multidimensional modeling and is one of the authors of the SQLBI Methodology and of the books "Microsoft PowerPivot for Excel 2010: Give Your Data Meaning," "Expert Cube Development with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services," and "LINQ Programming." Mark Sims


Mark is a Principal Program Manager on the SQLCAT (SQL Server Customer Advisory Team), working on large-scale cloud applications.  Usually found nerding out on challenging customer problems, he is currently focused on telemetry driven applications and guidance to navigation the distributed system landscape.
 

 

 
 

Mark Souza

Mark Souza is a Director in the Microsoft SQL Server development organization. He heads up all customer and ISV programs for the Microsoft SQL Server unit. These teams specialize in implementing the most challenging customer database applications worldwide. His experience focuses on the issues related to the distribution, modeling, design, and performance of data with a distributed computing application. Mr. Souza uses this customer experience to drive high quality SQL Server product planning back in Redmond.
 
 

Michael Frandsen / MentalNote

Michael Frandsen is the lead consultant on areas of technical consulting, performance optimization and migration/consolidation projects, with special focus on storage, scalability and virtualization.

He has worked with Windows NT 3.1 and SQL Server since 4.21a and has been involved in Tech betas and TAP customers ever since.

He has also contributed to best-practices at Microsoft and HP, through working with Microsoft product groups and SQLCAT in Redmond and HP R&D in Palo Alto, Houston, Fort Collins and Böblingen

Mikael Wedham is among other things a Microsoft Certified Master on
SQL Server 2008. He has worked as a developer and database administrator since 1993. He has also been a support technician. Since 2007 is Mikael also a certified Open Water Specialty Instructor and Emergency First response instructor. On his spare time, Mikael is crew on a rescueboat on Rescuestation Kronoberg for the Swedish Sea Rescue Society.
 
 

Neil Hambly / MDSL

Neil Hambly is a SQL veteran of more than 13 years, with expertise in SQL Server from Version 6.5 to the latest 2012 editions. He's held database roles at major organizations, including the BBC, ABN AMRO, Accenture, as well as at a number of smaller companies. He's currently serving as a Database Architect at MDSL, with prior roles as both a DBA and developer.

An active speaker and leader of the London Area SQL Server User Group (UK), Neil can frequently be seen at UK and international events. You can also find him sharing online via his blog, Twitter, and LinkedIn. When not presenting or organizing UG events, Neil is hitting the books and keyboard as he studies for the SQL Server 2008 MCM certification.
 
 
 

Niko Neugebauer / Novabase

Niko Neugebauer is a SQL Server MVP, who enjoys working with SQL Server. He works as a Senior DBA for an international bank in Lisbon, Portugal. His main focus is on OLTP performance tunning. He is a founder and leader of the Portuguese PASS Chapter (SQLPort.com) and a PASS Regional Mentor for Western Europe. He loves to serve the community and he has already organized 2 SQL Saturdays, one of which was the first one outside of the Northern America.
 

 

Scott Klein / Microsoft

Scott Klein is a Corporate Technical Evangelist for Microsoft focusing on Windows Azure SQL Database (AKA SQL Azure) and related cloud-ready data services. His entire career has been built around SQL Server, working with SQL Server since the 4.2 days. Prior to Microsoft he was a SQL Server MVP for several years, then followed that up by being one of the first 4 SQL Azure MVPs. Scott is the author of over ½ dozen books for both WROX and APress, including Pro SQL Azure. He can be found talking about Windows Azure SQL Database and database scalability and performance at events large and small wherever he can get people to listen, such as SQL Saturday events, local SQL Server user groups, and TechEd.

Silvano is a Senior Program Manager in the SQLCAT ISV Team, Microsoft Corporation. He joined the company in 2003, after several years of experience as a self-employed consultant for enterprise customers, speaker in the most important Italian IT conferences and trainer in the biggest Italian CPLS.
He started working in the data access, management and analysis space many years ago when, after his formal CS studies around 1990, he began his career in the industrial automation and process control industry, working with 8 and 16 bit microcontrollers and assembler compilers.

Simon have worked with databases in general and with SQL Server in partiqular since 1997. In 2000 he joined Microsoft as a SQL Server Escalation Engineer with the global support group. As such he has been involved in all releases since SQL 2000.

The past four years he have worked with BI solutions at the Enterprise Sales and Partner group. Simon is a popular speaker and frequently speaks at different conferences.
 

Stacia Misner  /  Data Inspirations

Stacia Misner is a SQL Server MVP, SSAS Maestro, MCIT-BI, and MCTS-BI with a Bachelors' degree in Social Sciences. A consultant, educator, author, mentor, and principal of Data Inspirations, her career spans more than 25 years with a focus on improving business practices through technology. Since 2000, Stacia has been providing consulting and education services for Microsoft's business intelligence technologies. In addition, she has authored or co-authored several books covering different components of the Microsoft SQL Server database and BI platform. Stacia has presented at PASS Summit, SQLBits, Microsoft TechEd, SQL Server Magazine Connections, and various other Microsoft events. She currently lives in Southeast Alaska.

Tobias Ternstrom  / Microsoft

Tobias has been an avid customer of SQL Server since the mid-90s starting out with SQL Server 6. He fell in love with the product and grew into a passionate developer, instructor and architect over the next decade or so. A few years back Tobias joined the program management discipline of the SQL Server Engine. He is currently a Lead Program Manager managing a team of program managers who own the engine-side of the SQL Server & Azure development experience. His areas include T-SQL language, type system, libraries as well as the data-tier application model.

 

Victor Isakov / Microsoft Corporation

Victor Isakov – MCA, MCM, MCT, and MVP – is a Database Architect and trainer who provides consulting and training services to various organizations in the public, private, and NGO sectors globally. He regularly speaks at international conferences such as Microsoft TechEd, SQL Connections, PASS Summit, and SQL Code Camp.
