About the Speaker

Gert Drapers
Software Architect, Microsoft Corp

Gert Drapers, is a Principal Software Architect in the SQL Server Cloud Programmability Team where he focuses on the asynchronous, parallel and distributed data computing. Gert joined Microsoft in 1991; prior to this current position he was a member of the SQL Server development team where he held various positions varying from development to management and contributed to SQL Server 7.0, 2000 and 2005. After this he worked on the Indigo Web Services team where he created the System.Transactions API; worked on MS-DTC, KTM and the WS-AtomicTransaction specification (http://docs.oasis-open.org/ws-tx/wstx-wsat-1.1-spec-os/wstx-wsat-1.1-spec-os.html) . In September of 2003 he joined the SQL Server Customer Advisory Team; a very small team that is focused on helping customers design, implement and performance tune the largest SQL Server implementations in the world. In July of 2005 became part of a startup team in the role of Group Engineering Manager and Software Architect, this project resulted in the creation of the “Visual Studio Team System Database Edition” product better known as “Data Dude”. In Feb 2009 he shifted his focus to the cloud, working on the design and incubation of the Azure Active Directory project
