PASS Summit FAQ

When and where do I check in or register onsite?
The Registration counter, located in the South Lobby, is open daily from Sunday, Nov. 4, through Friday, Nov. 9. Please see the PASS Summit agenda at a glance for registration hours. 

When does the conference start?
PASS Summit 2012’s main conference program officially kicks off Tuesday, Nov. 6, with the Welcome Reception at 6:30pm. However, we also have Pre-Conference Sessions on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 5-6, for attendees who registered for those, as well as activities for first-time attendees earlier in the day Tuesday.

Where can I find the speakers’ PPT presentations?
You can access the speaker PPT presentations from the Schedule Builder (login required) or from the PASS Summit Conference Sessions page by clicking on the sessions you are interested in. Please note that to access the presentations, you will need to enter the username and password you used to register for PASS Summit 2012.

How do I find my username/password?
From www.sqlpass.org, click on "Login" in the top right corner, and then select “Password Reminder” or “Username Reminder.”

How do I access the PASS Summit 2012 mobile program guide?
Simply download the mobile program guide app to your smartphone and follow the instructions to access the latest PASS Summit program information, schedules, special events, and more from your mobile device. The mobile guide is available for iOS, Android, Blackberry, and web-enabled devices.

What if I can't download the mobile program guide app?
You can still access the mobile guide through your browser at http://guidebook.com/guide/4264/schedule/.

Where do I find session evaluation forms?
This year, session evaluation forms are available online via the mobile guide, the PASS Summit website, and from kiosks around the conference. Every day, we'll draw from all the submitted forms for a Microsoft Surface tablet and other giveaways. We'll contact the winners by email and post their names on the Summit website. Your feedback is important to our speakers and everyone involved in organizing the PASS Summit program, so please take the time to fill out evaluations for all the sessions you attend.

What will be included on the PASS Summit 2012 session recordings and how can I purchase them?
The PASS Summit 2012 session recordings – available this year on a USB flash drive or as a download – include all the Conference Sessions, including half-day sessions and spotlights. The session recordings on USB flash drive are available to attendees for $195 if purchased onsite at the Registration counter (one per attendee), with the download option available for $155. The recordings will also be available for attendees to purchase after Summit from the Summit website. Shipping charges apply for the USB flash drive ($20 within the continental US, $30 international), and there is a $20 processing fee for the download option. Streaming of the sessions will be made available for free to attendees after Summit.

Non-attendees will be able to purchase the session recordings on USB flash drive after Summit for $395.

What will be on the PASS Summit 2012 Pre-Conference session recordings and how can I purchase them?
Note that only Pre-Con attendees can purchase the Pre-Con session recordings. The Pre-Conference session recordings are packaged in three separate tracks - BI, DBA, and AppDev. If you are attending a Pre-Con at PASS Summit, you are eligible to pre-purchase the Pre-Con session recordings on USB flash drive for $295 per track, or $495 for all 3 tracks. Shipping charges apply ($20 within the continental US, $30 international). The Pre-Con session recordings are available for purchase at the Registration counter.

When will the session recordings be available?
The Conference Session recordings will be available for attendees to download the week after Summit. All Conference Session and Pre-Conference Session USB flash drives will be mailed by December 15, 2012.

Is any content being live-streamed from PASS Summit 2012?
Yes, PASS TV makes its debut at PASS Summit 2012, providing 12 hours a day of live-streaming technical sessions, keynotes, and other content Wednesday, Nov. 7, through Friday, Nov. 9. PASS TV will then replay the day’s programming overnight. PASS TV will be broadcast from the Live Summit website beginning at 7:45am PT (15:45 GMT/UTC) each day; see the PASS TV schedule for the programming lineup. NOTE: Attendees at Summit cannot live-stream PASS TV due to bandwidth restrictions at the Convention Center.

Where is this year’s Community Appreciation Party?
The PASS Summit 2012 Community Appreciation Party, sponsored by Microsoft and PASS, will be at Seattle’s Experience Music Project museum Thursday, Nov. 8, from 7:00pm - 10:00pm. Free shuttle service to and from EMP will be available beginning at 6:00pm and running throughout the evening. EMP is also only a short ride away on Seattle’s monorail or by taxi and is in easy walking distance of the Convention Center. See your attendee bag for a handy postcard reminder and walking map.

What is the Community Zone?
The new Community Zone at PASS Summit 2012 is a place where you can bring your questions and talk with PASS Community Evangelists, user group leaders, SQLSaturday organizers, and other SQL Server community groups about how to participate in the SQL Server community year-round. The Community Zone, open Wednesday-Friday, Nov. 7-9, is located in the alcove between Ballrooms 4E-F, between the Lunch and Exhibit halls.

When is the book signing for SQL Server 2012 Integration Services Design Patterns?
The book signing is Wednesday, Nov. 7, 11:30am - 12:30pm beside the bookstore. Authors include: Andy Leonard, Matt Masson, Jessica M. Moss, Michelle Ufford, and Tim Mitchell.

Is there a place at the Convention Center to hold my luggage before I check into my hotel or after I check out?
Yes, PASS Summit provides coat and bag check next to the Registration desk during the following hours:

  •  Monday, Nov 5: 7:00am – 5:00pm
  • Tuesday, Nov 6: 7:00am – 8:30pm
  • Wednesday, Nov 7: 6:30am – 9:45pm
  • Thursday, Nov 8: 7:00am – 7:00pm
  • Friday, Nov 9: 7:00am – 6:15pm

 

Chapters/Volunteers FAQ

Where does PASS have chapters?
PASS has over 250 local chapters around the world. See the PASS Local Chapters page for a list of chapters by region. And be sure to visit the Community Zone at PASS Summit 2012 to see how you can find and get involved with your local chapter.

Who is my Chapter Leader?
You can find PASS Chapter Leaders on the PASS Local Chapters page by selecting your region, then clicking on the link to your Chapter’s site. The PASS Summit 2012 mobile program guide also lists PASS Chapter Leaders.

How can I start a PASS Chapter?
Starting a PASS Chapter has never been easier. If you are interested in getting a new chapter started in your area, stop by the Community Zone at PASS Summit to talk with PASS Community Evangelists Karla Landrum or Niko Neugebauer (or email them at ce@sqlpass.org). Also make sure you read Starting a PASS Chapter for tips and the official PASS Chapter requirements.

How can I start a Virtual Chapter?
If you are interested in starting a PASS Virtual Chapter, begin by checking the PASS Virtual Chapters page to see which Virtual Chapters currently exist. You can then email ce@sqlpass.org to discuss with Karla Landrum or Niko Neugebauer about starting a new one.

Who do I talk to about volunteering with PASS?
The answer depends on the type of volunteering you'd like to do. A good place to start is checking with your local PASS Chapter for volunteer opportunities; you can contact leaders through the Chapter websites – just go to the PASS Local Chapters page to locate your region, then select your city and corresponding Chapter link. If there isn’t a local chapter in your area, check out the PASS Virtual Chapters for how you can contribute. What is a SQLSaturday?
PASS SQLSaturdays are free 1-day training events for SQL Server professionals that focus on local speakers, providing a variety of high-quality technical sessions, and making it all happen through the efforts of volunteers. To learn more about SQLSaturdays, make sure to visit the PASS Summit 2012 Community Zone.

Is there a SQLSaturday scheduled near me?
With 70 SQLSaturdays already held around the world in 2012 alone, there’s likely an event in the works near you. See the schedule of upcoming events on SQLSaturday.com.

How do I go about organizing a SQLSaturday event?
The best candidate for hosting a SQLSaturday event is any city that has a reasonably active SQL Server user group. PASS provides the following support for organizers:

  • Administrative tools
  • Event logo
