Program Sessions:
Migrations from Oracle to SQL Server 2008 R2
Presenter:
Andreas Kampert (Microsoft Germany)
Session Details
Migrate a solution from a specific RDBMS to another (from Oracle to SQL Server in this case) can be a very complex task. You’ll be successful only using a combined approach of supporting tools (like SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle), best practices and proven conversion patterns. Oracle PL/SQL feature set is very powerful and, historically speaking, Java, C++ and also .NET developers used it extensively in enterprise-class applications, together with several data access techniques (JDBC, OLE DB, ADO.NET and other libraries). Given that SQL Server doesn’t provide a one to one coverage of these features, migration projects could become very frustrating and time consuming. In this session the process of an Oracle migration is explained based on field experience.
